WAUKESHA — Catholic Memorial High School was recognized as a distinguished school by Project Lead the Way (PLTW) for the fifth consecutive year. This recognition honors schools committed to access, engagement and achievement in their PLTW programs like computer science, biomedical science and engineering, a press release says.
CMH was one of 14 Wisconsin high schools and 191 U.S. schools to receive the honor.
“Catholic Memorial has put a focus on creating limitless opportunities for our students to excel. PLTW and STEM courses open doors for students today and in careers of the future,” CMH President Donna Bembenek said. “Currently, 54% of students at CMH are enrolled in our STEM program. We have expanded our computer science and biomedical science classes, and the engineering strand continues to grow.”
PLTW is a nonprofit organization in over 10,000 schools across the country working to develop and apply in-demand, transportable skills by exploring real-world challenges, the release says.
“We are honored to recognize Catholic Memorial High School for their unwavering commitment to provide students with an excellent educational experience despite the last two years having been some of the most challenging in recent history for students and educators due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Dr. David Dimmett, president and CEO of PLTW.
CMH is a private co-ed high school founded in 1949.
Other Waukesha-area schools to receive the same distinction for the 2021-22 school year are Waukesha Academy of Health Professions and Waukesha Engineering Prep Academy; Menomonee Falls High School received the honor for the 2017-18 school year, according to the PLTW website.
